Saxy Tiiiiiime August 25, 2014Jules 2 CommentsLet’s get our tropical groove on! But also, let’s be sorta sad while we get our tropical groove on. That’s how this song makes me feel. I think mixing a cheerful melody with sad lyrics or vice versa is pretty much the best and always will be. We’ve got some feel-good tropical beats goin on here, with some delightful sax spinnin through it. THEN you layer on these heart breaking lyrics and vocals just oozing with hopelessness. I mean come ON… that filter at 3:31? I think my heart just melted out of my eyes. So naturally you start sobbing, then the sax comes back and reminds you that life is just life and you know what, you’re gonna be just fine. Another thing I really respect about this remix is how crazy different it is from the original. The original is gorgeous, heavy and entirely somber. How the hell did Thero hear this and go– “OO MAI GAWD! Do you know what would be sick with this?! A TROPICAL BEAT AND SAXOPHONE LETS DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I still don’t know how he pulled it off, but he nailed it. Wet Hot Wax June 25, 2014Summer 2 CommentsIt was too hard to pick just one song from Cubism, so I whipped up a sampler. I’m loving these squishy wet sounds and organic drum beats in Contact. All that’s going on at 1.13 through 1.31 is rocking my multiverse, plus the scratching at the end is pretty cool. Third Eye is featuring some seriously solid, eerie dub step and the Event Horizon EP is enough drum and bass to get you through your whole day. Enjoy! That’s Funkedub. June 6, 2014Summer 1 CommentI knew when I saw that Gramatik had shared an Opiuo song it was going to be Oh so sicK, but I didn’t know that I wasn’t going to be able to stop listening to these two latest tracks. Snorkle has that solid Opiuo thump, kick beat backing up some Gramatik grade funk and bright cascading beeps, doubt it could get better. They’re still retaining those delicious slippery wet sounds but have added some new interesting ones, for instance, Quack Fat has a legit Tin Cup vibe going on. I have a feeling that tonight’s show at King King is not to be missed, especially if you’ve yet to catch Opiuo live. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-do-lab-presents-opiuo-soulular-and-gridwork-tickets-11563700339 http://opiuo.com/ Funkedubdubstep, funk, Funkedub, gramatik, King King, Opiuo, Tin Cup, wetShare : Tweet
