Moon and Starfire July 13, 2014Summer 2 CommentsAfter a beautiful night in the desert, getting my trance dance on and howling at the full moon, I’m spending a relaxing Sunday listening to David Starfire’s new album Awakening. It has all the sitar, funky world and hand drum beats that I was hoping for, like in his collaborations with Dub Kirtan Allstars, but this album is definitely a fresh start. Uplifting, intense and climatic with glitch hop and psydub influences, it’s perfect for the current Zeitgeist. I’m also excited to see his set at the next A~Bun~Dance in August. Game Changer July 9, 2014Summer 3 CommentsI have heard people rave about Lucent Dossier for years and I finally got the chance to see them at Lightening in a bottle in May and let me tell you, I get it. I also get why they call it an experience, that really is the best way to describe it. It’s beyond a traditional circus performance, though the acrobatic, aerial and fire art skills rival that of Cirque De Solie, their powerful electronic music foundation puts them in a league of their own. Awakening would be my favorite if I had to choose, but it’s a total package and you must see the whole show to get the full effect in all it’s splendor. If you haven’t had a chance to catch them, take note of their newly added Summer tour dates; They will be performing in Las Vegas at the House of Blues on Friday July 25th and Saturday July 26th at Club Nokia. http://www.clubnokia.com/events/detail/250779 http://www.lucentdossier.com https://www.facebook.com/LuCentdoSsieR Electronic, Live Performance Art"Los Angeles", Awakening, Club Nokia, coachella, Electronic Rock Opera, Gateway, House of Blues, Las Vegas, lightening in a bottle, Lucent Dossier Experience, The Do LabShare : Tweet
life is a playground July 7, 2014Summer 1 CommentI’ve really been enjoying Cyantific lately, I guess you could say I’m on a bit of a Drum&Bass kick again. This is so dope, just take a listen. A deadly bass line with a little hand drum keeping right up in Type A, an utterly possessive beat and bass combo in Hard Times and just when you thought Ogre voice was gone, it’s not; Oooh, aaah. Balearic Bass June 26, 2014Summer 1 CommentSPL’s ability to blend the nastiest beats and most tragic drops with beautiful, tranquil melodies is untouched by anyone else. Puerto Rico, Hypnotizing and Don’t U Leave Me are my very favorite tracks, in that order. These sounds do something indescribable to my brain. He is definitely one of my top five favorite producers. I started listening last year and had one of the most fun nights of my life at his King King show in December. I participated in an epic Sunday morning sunrise dance session to the Balearic Bass album just a couple weeks ago and I can’t wait to do it again at his set this Friday night at 333 Live with Stickybuds, J*Labs and Orphic. http://www.flavorus.com/event/StickybudsSPLJLabsOrphic/249257 Balearic, Drum&Bass, Dubstep, Trap333 Live, Balearic Bass, Beautiful, Drum&Bass, dubstep, Epic, J*Labs, King King, melodic, Orphic, SPL, Stickybuds, tragic, trapShare : Tweet
Wet Hot Wax June 25, 2014Summer 2 CommentsIt was too hard to pick just one song from Cubism, so I whipped up a sampler. I’m loving these squishy wet sounds and organic drum beats in Contact. All that’s going on at 1.13 through 1.31 is rocking my multiverse, plus the scratching at the end is pretty cool. Third Eye is featuring some seriously solid, eerie dub step and the Event Horizon EP is enough drum and bass to get you through your whole day. Enjoy! natural disaster June 18, 2014Summer No CommentThis beautiful melodic flute and mandolin plucking is perfectly juxtaposed by the low, yet up lifting rumbling bass line in Runaway featuring Maryann. So pretty, it’s hard to call it by Ratchet, but not hard to believe that it’s from the Simplify recordings repertoire, damn fine tunes. This track sounds simple at first blush, but listen closely; it’s delightfully intricate. It starts of like snakes and cicadas on a scorching hot day. An interesting high sound at .22 like an electric violin merged with steel drums replaces what might have been beeps in a more average track. I’m always impressed with innovative uses of cranks and growls, so the sputtering, cranking that morphs into a growly laser at 2.04 is really cool. I love the repetitive low “with” high “Me!” wiME! wiMe! wiME! They warped the vocals into a whirling, swarming effect that swoops in strongest at 1.29 before the beat drops in like the eye of the storm. Doesn’t running away sound like so much fun… Chillstep"Simplify Recordings", ft. Marryann, Maryann, ratchet, RunawayShare : Tweet
Seriously? June 17, 2014Summer 1 CommentI can not believe how good this little gem is, Soma & Prysm- Anubis from Caliber Music. The Egyptian vibe paired with the low bassy reverberating laser is etching a sphinx into my brain as we speak, in other words, it’s my jam! Subtle rhythmic beeps, crunchy clapping and some kind of un identified creature slithering and clicking in the back ground. Interesting. Exciting. Are they for real?! They’re my new favorite and I can’t wait to hear moar. Neurostepbass, Caliber, dance, dubstep, edm, electronic, glitch, hop, music, Neuro, Neurohop, StepShare : Tweet
