It seems DJ Shadow requested this remix from Machinedrum, and now I feel I owe him my firstborn. This remix actually does the original major justice! I’m addicted to the dramatic intro leading into a tension perfectly created by the drums and soft sirens mingling together. Machinedrum creates a hypnotic dark beat to mate with those foreboding lyrics we all know and love. Thus, an eerie velvety remix was born!! I think we need to start breeding excellent producers with more songs like that. First you got me hooked with that echoey chipmunk voice and melodic dubby feel, then you bust in with this dude’s glorious glorious voice preaching outstanding lyrics to live by? But wait there’s MORE! Now to contrast this glorious man voice we toss in Anna Yvette’s whispery swoons. DONE. I’m done. This song has similar qualities to Seven Lions but isn’t a direct rip-off like so many other songs I’ve heard. SiK has actually enhanced them, which I believe is hard to do because they’re pretty much perfect as is, so it’s an impressive batch of work. windshield wipers July 25, 2014Summer No CommentI love it when a Drum & Bass track is so bad ass that it’s not afraid to be beautiful. This one, Intersection from Technamatic samples Etta James’ At Last. They took out the strings, my favorite part of the original, but make up for it with a killer bass line that makes me want to drive fast in the rain. Nice Pretty Lights reminiscent piano cords too.
