Instant Hit

Are you ready for a pillow fight? Are you ready for slow mo images of hipster girls doing things like whipping their hair around and blowing bubblegum? Maybe some shots of sneakers with high socks?  THEN GET READY FOR THIS SONG!!!! OH BOY I WANNA HAVE A SLUMBER PARTY!!!

This song is  upbeat, quirky and addictive as hell.  The playful lyrics work perfectly over that happy trappy beat that could easily make this song a big summer hit.  This duo from Seattle has got a confident grasp on balancing pop flavor with just enough chill feel-good vibe!

It’s Only Machinedrum

If I could pick one word to describe this song it would velvet.

It seems DJ Shadow requested this remix from Machinedrum, and now I feel I owe him my firstborn. This remix actually does the original major justice! I’m addicted to the dramatic intro leading into a tension perfectly created by the drums and soft sirens mingling together.  Machinedrum creates a hypnotic dark beat to mate with those foreboding lyrics we all know and love. Thus, an eerie velvety remix was born!! I think we need to start breeding excellent producers with more songs like that.  There are too many remixes out there that make me want to cry for the future of electronic music, while eating an entire pan of homemade brownies.

Let’s focus on the good, shall we?

Give Us More

OOOHHHH the feeeEEEELZ!  Such beautiful feels for such a beautiful song.  First you got me hooked with that echoey chipmunk voice and melodic dubby feel, then you bust in with this dude’s glorious glorious voice preaching outstanding lyrics to live by? But wait there’s MORE! Now to contrast this glorious man voice we toss in Anna Yvette’s whispery swoons. DONE. I’m done.

This song has similar qualities to Seven Lions but isn’t a direct rip-off like so many other songs I’ve heard.  Skrux has enough of his own flavor to keep me and six thousand (and counting) other people listening.  GIVE US MORE SKRUX!!!!! Have a listen for yourself!

I <3 RoBOTs

I’m a sucker for Robots, Trap and Bass, so RoBOT RoMANCE from Sik VAN DYKE is right up my alley. The Blackmill and Purity Ring remixes are my favorite. SiK has actually enhanced them, which I believe is hard to do because they’re pretty much perfect as is, so it’s an impressive batch of work. I’ve experienced his spinning at several events, including the Gladkill Los Angeles album release party and it’s always satisfying. Go on a sexy trap sizzle, silky galactic bass journey with this mix:

windshield wipers

I love it when a Drum & Bass track is so bad ass that it’s not afraid to be beautiful. This one, Intersection from Technamatic samples Etta James’ At Last. They took out the strings, my favorite part of the original, but make up for it with a killer bass line that makes me want to drive fast in the rain. Nice Pretty Lights reminiscent piano cords too. Just wish the track was longer, good thing that this whole ep is awesome.
