I think it might seeeeeem like it should be easier to create, because you already have a foundation to work from, but in some ways it’s gotta be way harder because how do you break free from what’s already laid down and keep the parts that work? So, I tip my hat to Regulator’s remix of Candyland’s, “Breathless”. They added just enough bass and switched up the whole vibe of the song! Candyland’s original is much more house-y and sweet, with a tropical island feel, which I’m cool with but I’m really feelin’ Regulator’s take on it. The vocal warp, bassline and some tasteful high hats and claps, all work so well together . The build and drop is heavier and has a sexy bite to it. Definitely, breath-taking. Champagne Drip September 19, 2014Summer 2 CommentsI am absolutely loving this new music from Champagne Drip. It’s sparkling, bubbly, the dopest drank you eva drunk! Fun sound FX paired with some interesting panning that feels like a brain massage if you listen with headphones. I can’t get enough of the unique samples used (especially the Talking Heads, love!) and the upbeat vacationing vibe that the beats are bringing. Get Krooked September 18, 2014Jules 3 CommentsDAMMIT DENVER!!!! Why are YOU the most popular ho?!?!! Denver is like the broodmare for producing superior quality producers. She is The MOTHER PRODUCER if you will. She popped out Krooked Drivers a couple years ago and now they are in their “terrible two’s” phase. And when I say terrible, we all know I mean like super duper awesome. The duo is constantly pushing variation from song to song and working their ASSES off to avoid all genre types, I swear! You never know what they’re gonna bust out next. This jam right here is killin’ it with dat synth, uplifting beat and chipmunk voice (I will forever adore the chipmunk voice. Don’t hate.) I’m seriously loving the gorgeous blend of hyper drums, angelic strings, and subtle crackle effect creating a dynamic cluster of rrrrich sound. This song shares some elements of Beats Antique and Pretty Lights (AGAIN DENVER! AGAIN!!!!), with it’s cultural sound, energetic melody and funky flavor. His lead ALWAYS reals you in because you know the drop is gonna be crazy and not that typical bass “thump” or robot-orgasm trash that rookies are cramming into their songs in a giant douche competition to be the filthiest dub. Buku fine tunes his jams to create an addictive blend of gnarly bass layered with sweat-inducing, future trappy goodness. The sexy chill vibe of this song is kiiiinda outta control. The mellow bassline with the perfect amount of reverb and repetition makes me wanna run an ice cube down my neck in slow mo… (or better yet, down Shakira’s neck.) I even love the wolf howling at the intro and bidding us farewell to some delightful crickets! And I can think of no better way to end this sultry sweetness. Runnin’ Circles September 11, 2014Jules 3 CommentsMat Zo got me runnin’ circles for this jam right here! Seriously, the journey and layers in this song is just ridickillus!! Leading with a simple lil high hat and drifting into a slow build he teases the shit outta you with drumz on drumz on drumz til he finally gifts you that snarling growling gritty bass that you are practically crying for at this point. I know I was! (Seriously I think I was gripping my laptop with white knuckles and drooling on the mouse pad) And he hits you with that shit hard and fast just like you want it–BUT! I say BUT! He knows when to stop… to take it away dat throbbing bass and create a space to mellow you out with some heartfelt lyrics echoing into glitchy effects and runnin tha bass through your sexy earholes again. For me, what sealed the deal and lit my cigarette were those sax-y synth sounds EXPLODING in at 3:20 for the grand finale. I practically threw up. Like always, Mat Zo is continuously experimenting with new sounds and genre-bending from one song to the next, and I am quite thrilled with his recent venture into heavy dubby bass!
