Phaeleh, Auditory Canvas, sAuce and //HANNAH//

Jules and I caught the Phaeleh show with Auditory Canvas, sAuce and the Do Lab’s DJ invitational winner HANNAH at Project Club Los Angeles in Hollywood. It was our first time there and I seriously love this venue! Their sound system perfectly suited the low, emotive bass that this line up provided and the brilliant LED display complemented the chill vibes. A lovely evening with these talented artists. I’m particularly interested in seeing what’s to come from HANNAH and can’t wait to attend another show at Project LA.

Runnin’ Circles

Mat Zo got me runnin’ circles for this jam right here!  Seriously, the journey and layers in this song is just ridickillus!!  Leading with a simple lil high hat and drifting into a slow build he teases the shit outta you with drumz on drumz on drumz til he finally gifts you that snarling growling gritty bass that you are practically crying for at this point.  I know I was! (Seriously I think I was gripping my laptop with white knuckles and drooling on the mouse pad) And he hits you with that shit hard and fast just like you want it–BUT! I say BUT! He knows when to stop… to take it away dat throbbing bass and create a space to mellow you out with some heartfelt lyrics echoing into glitchy effects and runnin tha bass through your sexy earholes again.  For me, what sealed the deal and lit my cigarette were those sax-y synth sounds EXPLODING in at 3:20 for the grand finale.  I practically threw up.

Like always, Mat Zo is continuously experimenting with new sounds and genre-bending from one song to the next, and I am quite thrilled with his recent venture into heavy dubby bass!

It’s Only Machinedrum

If I could pick one word to describe this song it would velvet.

It seems DJ Shadow requested this remix from Machinedrum, and now I feel I owe him my firstborn. This remix actually does the original major justice! I’m addicted to the dramatic intro leading into a tension perfectly created by the drums and soft sirens mingling together.  Machinedrum creates a hypnotic dark beat to mate with those foreboding lyrics we all know and love. Thus, an eerie velvety remix was born!! I think we need to start breeding excellent producers with more songs like that.  There are too many remixes out there that make me want to cry for the future of electronic music, while eating an entire pan of homemade brownies.

Let’s focus on the good, shall we?

I <3 RoBOTs

I’m a sucker for Robots, Trap and Bass, so RoBOT RoMANCE from Sik VAN DYKE is right up my alley. The Blackmill and Purity Ring remixes are my favorite. SiK has actually enhanced them, which I believe is hard to do because they’re pretty much perfect as is, so it’s an impressive batch of work. I’ve experienced his spinning at several events, including the Gladkill Los Angeles album release party and it’s always satisfying. Go on a sexy trap sizzle, silky galactic bass journey with this mix:

Seriously?

I can not believe how good this little gem is, Soma & Prysm- Anubis from Caliber Music. The Egyptian vibe paired with the low bassy reverberating laser is etching a sphinx into my brain as we speak, in other words, it’s my jam! Subtle rhythmic beeps, crunchy clapping and some kind of un identified creature slithering and clicking in the back ground. Interesting. Exciting. Are they for real?! They’re my new favorite and I can’t wait to hear moar.

Hot hot hot!!

Song is aptly named I must say. This “wavey” vibe makes me think of heat rising off a scorching sand dune. Maybe because this song is so HOT! (GET IT?!?!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!)  Definitely traveling through a desert town to this one… maybe some harem girls dancing, fire spinning, a giant cobra just chillin on a huge satin pillow.

I love the combo of different cultural sounds with trap and sexy sultry bass popped with some perfectly positioned snaps. I’m gettin on my magic carpet…

90s Trap?!

Well aint DIS some shit?! Amazing shit!  Firstly, I love 90s music and I don’t care what anyone else says. Secondly, I love good remixes.

This is a glorious combo of both!! I’m really diggin that snake charmer sound thrown in there with an appropriate use of high hats. (Sometimes [mostofthetime] trap producers abuse the high hats and that crap just offends the senses. SUBTLETY my friends!!!) I also think it’s cool that they purposely included more than the chorus for lyrics, like many remixes tend to do.  It does the original more justice if you ask me.

On top of that, getting the free download bring’s your to Walu’s page which is a charity for improving the hygiene and sanitary conditions in Papua New Guinea’s coastal communities. HOLLA!!!

Golfer’s clap! Support and show love to some sweet beats!
